Bob Chapman, A Supporter Of The Royal British Legion Dies At 87
It is with deep sadness that we mark the passing of Bob Chapman, who died on 7th January 2026, aged 87. Born 17th October 1938, Bob was a true pillar of the Baldock community.
His profound commitment to remembrance was unmistakable. A staunch supporter of the Royal British Legion, he proudly served as the first Standard Bearer when the Baldock Branch re-formed. For decades, the Poppy Appeal collecting tin was a permanent fixture in Chapmans Butchers, raising thousands of pounds for veterans under his watchful care.

Bob’s dedication stemmed from his own service. He completed his National Service with the Life Guards, crewed Daimler armoured cars both in the UK and overseas, an experience that forged a lifelong respect for the armed forces.
More than his roles, Bob was a great Baldock character—a familiar, respected face whose absence will be profoundly felt. Our sincerest condolences go to all his family and friends.
Rest in peace, Bob. Your legacy of service and community spirit will not be forgotten.
