Authorities have released the name of the young employee killed in a morning shooting at a fast-food restaurant in the Lowcountry.

The Dorchester County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 18-year-old Kymani Baker of Ladson. Coroner Paul Brouthers said Baker was shot and killed while working at the Sonic Drive-in on Dorchester Road around 8:30 a.m. Friday.

Baker was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:35 a.m.

The Summerville Police Department and the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the deadly incident. No further details about a potential suspect or motive have been released at this time.

The shocking violence, occurring during the restaurant’s morning operations, has sent waves of grief through the community. Baker’s death marks a tragic loss of a young life at the very start of his adulthood.
